The large exquisite bead is decorated with the «palmette» ornament. The palmette is an ornamental motif consisting of curved palm leaves joined into «hearts». The three inner leaves of the palmette form a stylized lily bud. This ancient ornamental motif was used in all periods of Byzantine art.
