Bead «Vertograd».

The precious bead is made in the form of a dodecahedron and each of its faces is decorated with a large rose flower. Since ancient times the rose has been a symbol of the Mother of God, and the bead was given this name in honor of Her icon «The Enclosed Garden». The word «vertograd» in Church Slavonic means «garden». On the icon of the same name the Mother of God is depicted standing in a blossoming heavenly garden. The basis for the name was the words of the Bible: «A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed. Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all choice spices» (Song of Songs 4:12–15).
