Surrounded by an ornamental grapevine, a petitionary prayer is placed on the bead: «Lord, send Thy grace to help me». These words are the eighth of the 24 short prayers of St. John Chrysostom – according to the number of hours in the day and night. Saying these words, we ask God to send us His help and blessing in all everyday matters. The grapevine is the most ancient Christian symbol. «I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser» (John 15:1), Jesus Christ called Himself. «I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit».
