Bead «Symbols of the Evangelists».

On each of the four faces of this square bead, surrounded by laurel wreaths, the symbols of the four evangelists are depicted. These are the four disciples, apostles of Christ, who recorded the history of the Lord's earthly life and His teaching in the Gospel, which the Church metaphorically calls the Book of Life. Thanks to the evangelists, the holy Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, knowledge of Christ, of His Sacrifice which unites us to life in eternity, has become open and accessible to all mankind. The image of the four evangelists together is called the «tetramorph»: in traditional iconography the apostle Matthew is depicted in the form of an angel, the apostle Mark in the form of a lion, the apostle Luke in the form of an ox, the apostle John in the form of an eagle.
