St. George is one of the most venerated saints in the Christian Church. He is known as a patron of warriors, a helper in agricultural labor, a protector in misfortune, and a spiritual helper in the unseen struggle against the forces of evil. The pendant depicts the saint's most famous miracle: the rescue of a princess from a dragon to which she had been offered as a sacrifice. This miracle has a symbolic meaning: the princess represents the human soul, and the dragon the devil who seeks to devour it. St. George, the heavenly protector, descends from Heaven to help the soul escape destruction. On the reverse is written a prayer to the saint: "Martyr George, pray to God for me."
