A Guardian Angel is given by God to every person at Baptism, and remains invisibly by that person's side throughout their life, so long as the person preserves love for God and true faith in Him. The Guardian Angel's task is to help bring about the salvation of the one entrusted to their care. In particular, guardian angels spiritually guide Christians in faith and piety, protect their souls and bodies, and intercede for them throughout their earthly life, praying to God on their behalf. Blessed Matrona was blind from birth, but was given by the Lord a special gift of spiritual sight and clairvoyance. She saw people's fates and healed illnesses through prayer. Even beyond the grave, the saint continues to help all who need her, which is why believers lovingly call her "Matronushka."
