On one side of the pendant is depicted Archangel Michael. The mighty Archangel is venerated as the patron of warriors and of all who are faithful to God and fight against the forces of evil, as well as the protector of the souls of the departed and the guardian of the gates of paradise. Above him is placed the monogram of Christ in the form of the intersecting letters Chi and Iota, which are written the same way in most languages of Christian peoples. On the reverse, at the top, is depicted the flowering Cross of Christ, and below it a prayer addressed to the Cross: "By the power of Thy Cross, preserve us, O Lord."
