The Guardian Angel. The Prayer.

The front of the pendant depicts the Guardian Angel. In his right hand he holds a cross - a sign of obedience to Christ and adherence to His commandments. In his left hand he grips a sword, with which he repels the attacks of demons trying to seize the human soul. The word "angel" means "messenger." Angels are God's faithful servants, whom the Lord sends to proclaim His will. Angels, like humans, are created beings, but of a different nature. On icons they are depicted in human form with large wings. The angels' mighty wings symbolize the swiftness with which they carry out God's commands, while the small ribbons at their ears - called "toroki," or "hearings" - show that they always hear His voice. Angels are countless, and together they form a harmonious Heavenly hierarchy. Guardian Angels are of a lower rank than the others and are closest to people. They serve as protectors of each of us: they lift up the fallen, help the devout, and never leave us throughout our earthly life. Every person has their own Guardian Angel, given to them by God at Baptism, who always remains invisibly by their side. The Guardian Angel's ministry is not only to protect a person, but to help bring about the salvation of their soul for eternal life. On the reverse of the pendant is an ornament in the form of an equal-armed "Greek" cross, symbolizing the harmony of the fourfold world united in Christ. Around it are written the words of a prayer: "Strengthen me in good things, my guardian, and wondrously guide me to a life of peace," in which we ask the Guardian Angel to help us grow firm in good intentions and to teach us to strive for the peace of a perfect life.
