On one side of the pendant, the Mother of God is depicted with seven swords piercing her heart: three on the right, three on the left, and one below. The number seven represents the fullness of the grief, sorrow, and heartache the Mother of God endured during her earthly life. In prayer practice, no distinction is made between the icons "Softener of Evil Hearts" and "Seven Arrows," as they belong to the same iconographic type. Believers pray before this icon for protection from evil people and slander, for the reconciliation of those in conflict, and also to soften their own heart and be freed from evil thoughts and judgment. Above is written the prayer: "Accept our prayers, Most Pure Virgin Theotokos." On the reverse is an icon of the Guardian Angel, given to every person at Baptism to watch over and protect their soul. The Guardian Angel remains constantly by a person's side, helping and protecting them. Above it are the words of the prayer: "Holy Angel, pray to the Lord for me."
