This small image of the Guardian Angel was created as a reminder of the need to constantly call upon and give thanks to one's Guardian Angel. Holy Scripture speaks of angels as supreme rational beings who glorify God and fulfill His will. Angels were created by God, as human beings were, but they have quite another nature. On icons they are portrayed in human form with large wings. Their mighty wings symbolize the speed with which they carry out God's commands, while the small ribbons at their ears - called "toroki," or "hearings" - show that they always hear His voice. On the reverse is written a prayer to the holy Guardian Angel: "Holy Angel of Christ, guard me."
