The Kazan Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the most venerated icons. The icon was revealed at the site of a fire in Kazan in 1579. In 1904 the sacred original was stolen and destroyed, but the Mother of God has revealed the icon's miraculous power through its many copies. Through prayer before the Kazan image, healings take place, as well as many miracles connected with help in arranging one's personal life. On the reverse is depicted St. Nicholas of Myra, also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker, for his help in all of life's circumstances and spiritual needs. The saint is venerated as a healer of the sick, patron of travelers - especially by sea - a helper in trade and study, and in finding a worthy spouse.
