A key opens many doors. It is an ancient symbol of knowledge and discovery, of finding a treasure - not necessarily a material one. It can be the heart, the soul, God... The Key of Joy opens the doors to Paradise. It locks the heart against despondency and sorrow and opens it to God. "Lord, be my light when I sit in darkness!" - a prayer that gives strength even in hard moments - is written on the Key of Joy. Its eyelet is a symbolic heavenly sphere illumined by the gracious rays of the glory of Jesus Christ, the sun of righteousness. On the reverse, in the center, is a bow with an arrow and the words "joy" and "despondency." The flying arrow of joy strikes despondency. Despondency is considered a sin as a manifestation of little faith. Despondency is followed by despair, that is, the cessation of "hope," of trust in God, and with it disappears love for God, for one's neighbor, and for oneself. Thus a person loses the three main virtues - faith, hope, and love.
