The front of the cross depicts the Crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On either side He is attended in the Deesis (intercession for mankind) by the Most Holy Mother of God and the prophet John the Forerunner, Baptist of the Lord.

At the centre of the reverse is the Guardian Angel — the Angel given to every person at Baptism for the care and protection of the soul.

On the left is the holy blessed Xenia of St Petersburg, venerated as a swift helper in the ordering of family happiness and in the illnesses of children and of those close to us. On the right is the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky, venerated as a defender of Orthodox Christians and patron of warriors.

Below is St Alexander of Svir, one of the greatest of Russian saints, who was granted an appearance of the Holy Trinity. He helps childless couples and heals ailments of every kind.

The composition is crowned by the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.
