The front of the cross bears the icon of Christ Pantocrator, the Almighty God, holding in His hands the Book of the Destinies of all mankind. On either side the Lord is attended by the apostles Peter and Paul, John and James. Above them rises the image of the Holy Trinity. For believers the icon of the Holy Trinity holds great significance, for it helps to resolve all the troubles that give no peace. Before this icon prayers of confession may be read, allowing one to be cleansed of the negativity and sinfulness within. On the reverse we see depictions of the miracles of St Nicholas the Wonderworker. St Nicholas is regarded as the patron of seafarers, merchants and children. He is held to be the swiftest of helpers, a source of spiritual support, an intercessor and a deliverer from injustice and from untimely death.
