The front depicts the eight-pointed cross, the symbol of the Crucified Lord Jesus Christ. It is venerated by the Orthodox Church as the fullest image of the cross, since besides the two principal crossbars it also bears the footrest and the titulus.

The reverse bears a prayer to Christ, "Save and Protect", traditionally placed on baptismal crosses.
