The front depicts the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The feast of the Protection of the Mother of God commemorates the miracle that took place in the Church of Blachernae on 1 (14) October 910: the Most Holy Mother of God appeared to the faithful above the altar of the church and spread Her veil over them. On that day the Mother of God revealed to the people that She is their Intercessor before God.
All requests for protection addressed to the Mother of God will be heard if they come from the depths of the heart. Prayer before this image has the power to protect from all evils, misfortunes and ailments. She surrounds all with Her holy omophorion, granting a sense of safety and grace.
