On the front Jesus Christ appears as Christ Pantocrator, the Almighty. Heaven is represented symbolically by a golden circle, from which the arms of the cross radiate like rays. On the three-lobed ends of the arms, in the image of the Most Holy Trinity, are depicted the highest ranks of angels.
The form of the cross symbolises the four quarters of the world gathered into one, and the image of the union of the earthly (the horizontal arm) with the Heavenly (the vertical arm). On this cross the front symbolically depicts the Kingdom of Heaven.
The five icons of the Mother of God on the reverse are five of the principal treasures of the faith. On the golden circle framing the central Vladimir image is inscribed the prayer: "Open unto us the doors of mercy, O blessed Mother of God."
The Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God is venerated as an enlightener and protectress, the giver of countless miracles.
At the foot of the cross is the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God.
The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God — through prayer before the Kazan image healings are worked, as well as many miracles connected with help in ordering one's personal life.
