The Crucifixion of Christ. Orthodox Cross

The Archangel Michael. The Guardian Angel. St Xenia of St Petersburg, the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky, St Alexander of Svir. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

The front depicts the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ. On either side Christ is attended by the Most Holy Mother of God and John the Baptist, the chief intercessors for mankind before God. This composition is called the "Deesis", which means "supplication". Below is the icon of the Archangel Michael, the mighty defender against the powers of evil. At the centre of the reverse is the Guardian Angel, beside whom are placed the images of saints especially venerated in the Church: St Xenia the Blessed of St Petersburg, the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky, and the great healer and wonderworker St Alexander of Svir. At the top of the cross is the Kazan Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God.
