The cross is made as a treasure of the Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery, the appanage of the Mother of God in Russia. Its form is close to that of the cross on the dome of the monastery's majestic Cathedral of the Transfiguration, and upon the cross itself are placed the saints who built and glorified this monastery.

The front bears, following tradition, the Crucifixion of Christ, attended at the Cross by the sorrowing figures of the Most Holy Mother of God and the apostle John the Theologian, the beloved disciple of Christ. Above is the blessing image of God the Lord of Hosts.

Below, at the base of the Cross, is the icon of St Seraphim of Sarov.

The icon of the Tenderness, "the Joy of All Joys", is placed at the centre of the reverse. The Mother of God is surrounded by seraphim. Below is the icon of the foundress of the Diveyevo Monastery, St Alexandra.
